Child Safety Policy
Last updated: May 2025
1. Our Commitment
Epitant is built for children aged 2–10 and their families. We are committed to creating a safe, calm, and enriching audio storytelling experience. Every decision we make — from how we design prompts to how we handle data — is made with child safety as our primary consideration.
We follow ASEAN child digital safety guidelines and align with global best practices for child-friendly digital products, including principles from UNICEF's Children's Digital Rights framework.
2. Age-Appropriate Content
All stories generated on Epitant are designed to be:
- Age-appropriate for children aged 2–10
- Free from violence, sexual content, profanity, or disturbing themes
- Calming, educational, and enriching
- Reviewed through multi-layer content safety filters before delivery
We use AI content moderation at the prompt level, generation level, and output level to catch and block inappropriate content.
3. Who Can Create an Account
Only adults aged 18 or older — specifically parents or legal guardians — may create accounts on Epitant. Children are not permitted to register independently.
Parents create and manage child profiles on behalf of their children. This ensures that a responsible adult is always in control of the child's experience on the platform.
4. Minimal Data Collection for Children
We collect only the minimum data necessary for a child profile:
- Child's first name (used to personalise story characters)
- Age range (used to select age-appropriate themes and vocabulary)
We do not collect children's email addresses, photos, precise location, or any other personally identifying information about children.
Child profile data is never shared with third parties for marketing, advertising, or analytics purposes.
5. AI Content Safety Approach
Story generation uses large language models with strict system prompts that enforce child-safe output. Our safety approach includes:
- Prompt-level filtering: User inputs are screened before being sent to AI models.
- Model-level safety: We use models with built-in safety classifiers (Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude).
- Output-level review: Generated stories are checked for content policy compliance before delivery.
- Human review readiness: We maintain the capability to review flagged content manually as the platform scales.
6. User-Generated Story Handling
When parents use the "Use My Imagination" feature to write custom stories, the content is processed through the same safety pipeline. We do not allow stories that contain:
- Violence or descriptions of harm to children
- Sexual or exploitative content of any kind
- Content promoting dangerous behaviour
- Discriminatory or hateful content
7. Reporting Unsafe Content
If you encounter any content on Epitant that you believe is inappropriate, harmful, or unsafe for children, please report it immediately.
You can report content via our contact page. We take all reports seriously and will review and act on them promptly.
8. Parental Responsibility
We encourage parents to:
- Listen to stories together with their children
- Review the stories library regularly
- Use parental controls to manage the listening experience
- Report any content that does not meet their family standards
Epitant is a tool to support family storytelling time, not a replacement for parental involvement.
9. Consent and Transparency
We believe parents have the right to understand exactly how our platform works and how their children's data is used. We provide clear, plain-language explanations of our data practices in our Privacy Policy.
Parents may request a full data export or account deletion at any time by contacting us.
10. Future Platform Integrations
We support and plan to expand integration with YouTube, Spotify, and podcast RSS feeds. Before any new integration is launched, we will review its child safety implications and update this policy accordingly.
11. Ongoing Commitment
Child safety is a continuous responsibility. We review our safety practices regularly and update this policy as our platform evolves. We welcome feedback from parents, guardians, and child safety experts.
